I keep the introductions short and finish quickly as the body paragraphs are more important. My technique is to write 2 sentences, simple and short so that I can focus on body paragraphs which are the key to high scores. The method that I follow for writing introductions is: 1. A sentence to paraphrase/introduce the Topic 2. A sentence giving a general response to the question or instruction
Example question: All high school students should be encouraged to take part in community service programmes. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
My Introduction: It is believed that high school students should be motivated for doing unpaid work in their local communities. I completely agree that community service programmes for teenagers are a good idea.
Notice that I have used only 2 sentences for introduction. In the 1st sentence I have simply paraphrased/introduced the topic and in the 2nd sentence I give my response to the question asked.
