One of the major problem students face is answering Cue Card of IELTS Speaking Part 2. The problems they face are

  • Lack of ideas

  • Not enough content

  • Not able to speak for minimum 1 minute

  • No fluency and Coherence

I suggest the following technique to my students to handle cue card.

  • For the first 3 questions of cue card, speak at least 2-3 sentences for each question

  • By speaking in this way, you will automatically cover 40-45 seconds

  • Speak at least 6-7 sentences for the last question

  • You can cover 40-45 seconds for the last question by this

If you practice cue card using this technique, it is easy to cover more than 1 minute of speaking and you will have ideas too. This will also help to maintain coherence along with having enough content for speaking. Utilize the 1 minute cue card planning time, which is given before you start speaking, to write keywords for each question so that you remember what to speak.
